Plenary speaker: Professor Bonny Norton, University of British Colombia.
Professor Norton’s research areas include identity and language learning, critical literacy, and international development. Her published works include the seminal Identity and Language Learning (2000/2013). Since 2003 Norton has carried out a number of research projects in Uganda on identity and language learning, also focusing on gender, health, and technology in relation to language and identity. She is Research Advisor of the African Storybook Project and co-founder of the Africa Research Network on Applied Linguistics and Literacy. Norton was born and raised in South Africa but has lived in Canada since 1988.
